Interior Decorating: What’s In and What’s Out for 2019?

A new year brings new styles and colors for decorating your home. The official color of the year for 2019 is Living Coral. Although it is rather bright and bold, it is also a natural, calming color. Let’s look at what’s in for painting your walls and what is also coming and going for interior decorating this year.

  • Accent walls are going away. Painting all the walls in a room the same color is in. What do you do if you enjoy that accent color? Try hanging colorful artwork or add bold-colored furniture pieces on one side of the room.
  • White or gray tone walls are still fine for some rooms, but rich colors are taking over. Variations of mustard yellow are hot. The color has been around forever and goes with almost any other colors you want to add to the room.
  • If you are not ready to jump into bold wall colors, choose a shiny white tone and accent it with bright colored flooring, tile, lighting, and furniture to make the room pop.
  • When choosing woodwork colors, look for either super light or very dark colors. Mix and match the light and dark for a very “in” look.
  • If your home looks like a sign factory, you may want to change things up. Word art is not a bad thing, but it has become over-used in most homes. Some fun words or letters in a couple spots around your home are fine, but try to avoid having your walls looking like pages of a book.
  • Mix up the textures in your decorations. Wood, leather, and different metals (such as copper) all work together very well. Vary between new and recycled/refurbished for an even better look.
  • Combining classic and modern furniture and lighting is also a real trend. Accent those rooms with curtains instead of blinds.

Dare to be different in 2019—be bold, experiment with color, and mix and match to create your own individual home style.
