New Year’s Resolutions: Homeowner Edition

Every year people make a list of New Year’s resolutions from bettering yourself to trying new experiences. We wanted to go a different route and come up with a list of resolutions for homeowners instead. Stick to this list and your house will be in the best shape ever!

Check your furnace filter at least once a month

The filter in your furnace is there to keep your air clean but sometimes it can get loaded with dirt, dust, and pet hair. Make sure to check on it at least once every month to make sure it’s still clean. If it is getting dirty simply put a new one in to ensure your furnace is working properly.

Clean the areas you’ve been neglecting

We can all be negligent when it comes to cleaning. Hard-to-reach areas and areas that aren’t visible can be easily passed over during regular cleaning. Take some time to give your house a deep clean a few times a year. Your house will thank you for it.

Check your smoke alarms

Checking your smoke alarms once a month can give you some peace of mind. All you have to do is push the test button to make sure that they are still working. Replace any batteries if they aren’t working and make sure to check the date on the inside. Smoke alarms are made to last 10 years.

Trim down your energy costs

Being more eco-friendly doesn’t have to be a lot of extra work. You can change some small things around your house that can make a big difference and even save you some extra money. Switching to LED light bulbs, sealing up any cracks letting air in or out, closing heat registers in any unused rooms, using less hot water, and hanging your clothes to dry can all help you trim down that energy bill.

Follow these tips to get started and then you can add more as you go! New Year’s Resolutions don’t have to be a big commitment, doing small things around your house can make a big difference. If you have more questions reach out to one of our agents!
